Do I need solar panels to have a battery?▾

No — you can install a standalone battery without solar panels and charge it from the grid during cheap off-peak hours using a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go or Agile. That said, solar plus battery gives you the best overall return on investment.

Can a battery be added to my existing solar panels?▾

Yes — in most cases we can retrofit a battery to an existing solar system. We assess your current inverter to determine the best approach. Retrofit batteries currently benefit from 0% VAT until March 2027.

What size battery do I need?▾

The average UK home uses 8–10kWh per day, with most of that in evenings and mornings. A 5kWh battery covers a typical evening. A 10kWh battery suits larger households, EV charging, or homes with heat pumps. We calculate the optimum size based on your actual energy bills and usage.

Is there a grant available for battery storage?▾

No specific grant for battery storage, but all installations benefit from 0% VAT — saving typically £400–£1,200. Some low-income households in Wales may qualify through the Warm Homes Programme or ECO4 scheme.
