Do solar panels work in Wales?▾
Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. South Wales receives enough solar radiation to make solar PV an excellent investment. Modern panels are more efficient than ever and generate meaningful electricity on overcast days. Swansea receives around 1,500–1,600 hours of sunshine per year.
Do I need planning permission?▾
In most cases, solar panels are permitted development — no planning permission needed. Exceptions apply for listed buildings or conservation areas. We check all planning requirements as part of our survey process.
How long does installation take?▾
Most domestic solar PV installations are completed in one day. Systems with battery storage typically take 1–2 days. We handle all DNO notifications and paperwork on your behalf.

Yes — in most cases we can retrofit a battery to an existing solar PV system. Retrofit batteries currently benefit from 0% VAT until March 2027.
What financial help is available?▾
Solar PV benefits from 0% VAT until March 2027. Low-income households in Wales may qualify for fully-funded solar through ECO4 or the Warm Homes Programme Wales. The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) provides ongoing income from surplus electricity you export.
