Get up to £9,000 off your heat pump installation

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides a government grant towards replacing a fossil fuel boiler with a heat pump. The grant is deducted directly from your installation cost — you never pay it upfront or claim it back yourself.

We handle the entire BUS grant application via our MCS umbrella partner HPIN Direct. You get the full grant deducted from your bill with zero paperwork on your end.

Do you qualify?

The BUS has clear criteria — we confirm eligibility for free during your survey.

You are likely eligible if...

  • You own the property in England or Wales
  • You are replacing a fossil fuel heating system (gas, oil or LPG)
  • Your property has a valid EPC (relaxed rules from April 2026)
  • The installation is by an MCS-certified installer (we use HPIN Direct)
  • You have not previously received a BUS grant for this property
  • Note: insulation requirement has been scrapped from April 2026

You may not be eligible if...

  • You are a tenant, not the property owner
  • The property already has a heat pump installed
  • You have already claimed a BUS grant for this property
  • The property is in Scotland (separate scheme applies)
  • New builds — different rules apply, ask us
  • Listed buildings may need additional assessments

BUS grant questions

Do I need to do anything to get the grant?
Very little — we handle everything via HPIN Direct. You need proof of property ownership and a valid EPC. Beyond that, we manage the application and deduct the grant from your final invoice.
Has the insulation requirement been removed?
Yes — as of April 2026, the insulation prerequisite has been scrapped. You no longer need to complete loft or cavity wall insulation before applying for the BUS grant. This removed one of the biggest barriers to the scheme.
How long does the grant application take?
The BUS voucher is typically issued by Ofgem within 2–6 weeks of application. It is valid for 3 months. We submit your application as soon as you confirm you would like to proceed.
Can landlords claim the BUS grant?
Yes — landlords can apply for the BUS grant for rental properties. The same eligibility criteria apply. Contact us to discuss eligibility for your rental portfolio.
Is the BUS grant available in Wales?
Yes — the BUS covers both England and Wales, administered by Ofgem. Additional Welsh Government schemes (ECO4, Warm Homes Programme Wales) may also be available for lower-income households.
What is the difference between £7,500 and £9,000?
The standard grant is £7,500 for all eligible properties including those on mains gas. The £9,000 grant is a temporary uplift for homes currently heated by oil or LPG (off the gas grid). It is available from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027 only.
