FAQs
Thermal stores & boilers questions
Do I need a thermal store with a heat pump?
Not always — but a buffer tank significantly improves heat pump performance by preventing short cycling. If you are integrating with a boiler or solar thermal, a thermal store is usually essential. Typical cost: £2,000–£4,500 installed.
Can I keep my gas boiler when I install a heat pump?
Yes — a hybrid system pairing your existing boiler with a new air source heat pump is very practical, especially for older properties. The heat pump handles most heating; the boiler provides backup on the coldest days. This approach also qualifies for the BUS grant.
What does an annual boiler service involve?
Our service includes visual inspection, safety device checks, component cleaning, gas pressure checks, heat exchanger inspection, combustion efficiency testing and a service record. We also carry out a Gas Safety Check as part of the service.
Do landlords need a Gas Safety certificate?
Yes — landlords are legally required to have all gas appliances inspected and certified annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We provide landlord Gas Safety certificates across South Wales.
